Andrea Fruhling and Norman Amundson of Doubleknot Works hosted a fantastic day-long professional development session for the staff of SFU's Career & Volunteer Services. The day's activities were not only interesting and engaging, but they nudged each of us out of our respective comfort zones at different times in ways that always felt safe and supported.

What was particularly impressive about the day was how well and how effortlessly the facilitators adjusted to the needs of the group. Within the team that day were experienced and novice career practitioners, support staff, and a number of student staff. Yet despite this range, each participant reported gaining both personal insights and developing practical tools, and informal session debriefs continued among staff for weeks.

The session with Doubleknot Works was one of the highlights of our year and a great way to wrap up the year.

Andrea’s energy and expertise as a life-long career practitioner, coach and experiential educator has played a crucial role in the success of our participants in the Certificate in Organizational Coaching and Coaching Fundamentals for Career Influencers programs at UBC Extended Learning.  As an instructor, Mentor Coach and program development collaborator, Andrea’s creativity is matched by her pragmatism and skill for simplifying complex ideas and breaking ambitious learning objectives into accessible, relevant pieces to help participants thrive.

As a career coach and practitioner, Andrea embodies the concepts and frameworks she teaches, offering herself as a model to others as she leads workshops and coaching sessions with groups and individuals in-person and virtually.  Her ability to notice and adjust her approach to the energy of her audience, and to address emerging themes and patterns within her sessions enables participants to continually deepen their learning and enjoy the safe space to explore.

Andrea has played an active role in our UBC Extended Learning coaching community since 2017 and continues to play an important role as we iterate and expand our program offerings!
