Wayfinding
You know something needs to change. You’re just not sure what, or where to start.
The Wayfinding Career Program is for professionals who are ready to move, but want to see the path a little more clearly, need the right tools to help find the next step, and have people beside them who understand what this feels like.

When we find ourselves in a new place or are feeling lost, we look for directional signs, recognizable landmarks and more to help us find our way.
Career Wayfinder, the newest workbook from Doubleknot Works, provides you with the landmarks you need to find your way. It can be tempting to move towards a future career or take action without pausing to first learn more about who you are and the qualities you need to thrive in the work you do.
Whatever situation you find yourself in, this workbook will give you the resources you need to understand yourself in the context of your personal career development, and give you the tools to communicate who you are to the people with and for whom you work.
Career Wayfinder contains a wide array of resources and exercises for wayfinding.
Hope-Action Theory: A foundational framework for considering the importance of self-reflection, self-clarity, visioning, and the ever-shifting influences of the environment.
Liminal Space: a space and time of transition, and uncertainty. Many people find themselves in a situation where they are crossing over from the known to the unknown.
Mapping: To support transition, we include mapping exercises to help you better understand who you are and where you’re at.
The workbook introduces the Career Wheel and new exercises to help assess and clarify the components that influence career options. For those familiar with “Career Pathways”, these exercises have been updated, and provide a systematic way to consider personal and environmental influences.
1) Reflect on who you are by clarifying your skills, interests, values, and personal style.
2) Consider the impact of learning experiences, significant others, work/life experiences, and career opportunities.
3) Pull everything together and consider the types of career options these components might be pointing toward.
To conclude the Wayfinder workbook, we have a section called Looking Forward and Back. This is where you consider what lies ahead and what you have already accomplished.
Crossing Through Liminal Space: If you are in liminal space, this might be the time to cross over to a more defined goal.
My Career Story: Thinking about your life as a book, what you have learned, and what lies ahead.
Vantage Points: An exercise where you have the option to step away from your computer and walk through various aspects of the problem.
Make a Plan: Consider next steps, and how you will keep yourself accountable as you move forward. This is not the end of the story, but it does help define next steps.
Hands-on training options available, facilitated by Andrea Fruhling, COC, PCC, and Dr. Norm Amundson.
Career Wayfinder is complimented by our custom suite of activities and full workshop program. Send us a message to discuss applications for your team, access to this workbook as a digital client resource, and bulk discounts on materials.

What people are saying about Career Wayfinder
“I just turned the last page on Career Wayfinder and it is indeed brimming with delightfully practical projects just as the subtitle promises. The workbook accompanies the reader through a series of clearly defined and inviting steps, each building toward greater self-awareness, inspiring creativity, and creating the conditions for the courage to reflect on your past and build your career future. If you are keen to reflect on where you’ve been and what’s most important to you now as a foundation for creating the next chapter in your career story, then this is the book for you!”
Sareena Hopkins Executive Director, Canadian Career Development Foundation
“This workbook is truly amazing! It is accessible, engaging, and clear and offers delightfully practical projects that make career discovery an enlightening and rewarding journey. An essential tool for anyone seeking to navigate their career path with confidence and clarity.”
Alistair Gordon Director, Wellspring Counselling, and Adjunct Professor, The University of British Columbia
“This workbook of “delightfully practical projects” makes important career development tasks feel fun and light. This is how it should be. Career development is not a problem. Career development is a normal and natural part of human life, and the Career Wayfinder treats it as such. The way Fruhling & Amundson approach it—with metaphors, activities, quizzes, reflections, and maps—wayfinding can be interesting, enjoyable, productive, and sometimes surprising. This is a resource for anyone, but it will be particularly helpful for those who have stopped along their path to sit for a moment, take a breath, and consider their next direction.”
